After a couple of days I decided there was no way I was going to put up with this, so I reverted back to Windows 7 using the convenient downgrade feature of Windows 10. Even after the downgrade, it wasn't quite right, but I (luckily) had the sense to have created a full system image restore prior to the upgrade, so I made good use of it.

I'm now back on Windows 7 and my machine is nice and responsive again. I still have the option to upgrade to Windows 10 again, should I wish to try again in the future. Maybe in 6 months these problems will have been ironed out. I only have an old 32 bit machine with 4GB RAM, so maybe it's just not sufficient for today's operating systems. Anyway, that's my experience. The problem with upgrading to a new operating system is that certain things like applications and drivers sometimes are not compatible.

Windows 10 is not necessary since your able to get updates from Windows 7 til 2020. Even though Windows 10 is a free upgrade which is nice I probably would just downgrade it to Windows 7 since it appears your not happy with Windows 10. The bad news is if you don t have a copy of Windows 7 than it probably cost you 100+ depending what version you get. Note: I would suggest looking for the latest video driver for your computer which can be found in the manufacture site and see if that fixes you issue before you decide to downgrade. I wouldn't downgrade, because that is what I did and it was just not the same and I was still getting notification to download windows 10 and eventually I thought: oh what the heck, it is just a case of getting used to it, but no matter how I tried, I could not get it to download and asking a question on here, I got a fantastic answer and followed the instructions and now, back or forward, to windows 10 and yes, it does take a bit of time to get into the start, but actually I really like it now. So, personally I would persevere with windows 10! The first thing you should care before upgrading the OS is whether the drivers for your add devices are already out for that particular OS or not.
